Working group 7.5 of the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) is focused on Reliability and Optimization of Structural System
Our purpose is to promote modern structural system reliability and optimization theory and its applications, to stimulate research, development and application of structural system reliability and optimization theory, to assist and advance research and development in these fields, to further the dissemination and exchange of information on reliability and optimization of structural systems, and to encourage education in structural system reliability and optimization theory.
The WG7.5 was inaugurated with the first working conference, which was held in 1987 in Aalborg, Denmark, chaired by Prof. Palle Thoft-Christensen. Since then, 17 working conferences were held worldwide, and many innovations in the field were first presented and discussed during IFIP WG7.5 meetings. The themes of WG have developed over the years, to reflect the progress of the field and the changing societal challenges environments and challenges. Core themes are structural reliability methods and applications, optimization techniques, engineering risk analysis and decision making, with applications mainly in civil and mechanical engineering.
